The Roseville City Council authorized a nuisance abatement Nov. 24 for a property at 1719 Chatsworth after multiple prior warnings about an inoperable vehicle and outdoor storage but agreed to hold enforcement in abeyance until Dec. 8 to allow the resident time to comply.
Codes official David England told the council the property had been the subject of neighborhood inspections dating to 2023 and 2024 for the same vehicle-registration/tabs issue and that staff provided written notices, did an educational outreach, and later mailed council-notification letters. England said the freezer that had once been in the driveway was removed but the vehicle remained with two flat tires and lacked proper registration.
England said staff received a call from the resident on the day of the meeting saying she had ordered tabs and could not fix the vehicle until after Christmas; staff were unable to confirm compliance. Councilors pressed staff on possible community resources to help residents with mechanical fixes and discussed the potential for towing and impound costs to exceed the price of repairs. Councilor Schroeder moved to authorize abatement if not cured by Dec. 8; the council voted unanimously to approve that motion and to stay abatement until that date.
Next steps: If the vehicle remains noncompliant on Dec. 8, staff will contract to remove it and bill the property owner; the owner will also be responsible for towing/impound recovery costs.
