Joshua Strickula sworn in as Mason mayor; Scott Gibson named vice mayor in unanimous council votes

Joshua Strickula was sworn in as mayor of Mason and Scott Gibson was elected and sworn in as vice mayor during the City of Mason’s organizational meeting on Dec. 1, 2025. Council members unanimously approved both leadership positions in roll-call votes.

The council opened nominations for mayor and received a single nomination; the clerk then conducted a roll-call vote in which Council members Burrell, Gibson, Singh, Spathe, Strickland, Swamy and Bennett each recorded “Yes,” electing the nominee unanimously. The newly elected mayor took the oath of office, repeating the standard pledge to support the U.S. and Ohio constitutions, the city charter and ordinances and to faithfully perform the duties of the mayor.

In a later nomination for vice mayor, Council member Spathe praised the nominee’s community leadership and volunteer work and nominated Council member Scott Gibson. That nomination was seconded and approved by roll call; Gibson recited the oath of office for vice mayor.

In brief remarks after the oaths, Mayor Strickula thanked family and staff, described the meeting as a historic moment for Mason and cited priorities for the coming two years including strengthening relationships with small businesses, revitalizing downtown and careful stewardship of the city’s finances. "I believe Mason's future is incredibly bright," the mayor said.

Several newly sworn council members addressed the gathering, thanking family, volunteers and residents for their support. New council member Mirelli Swamy pledged to be accessible and transparent and said she would "get to work" for residents. Council members and the mayor invited attendees to a group photo and a reception following the ceremony.

The council concluded the organizational session with a motion to adjourn that was moved, seconded and approved; the meeting closed after the planned photograph and reception announcement.
