The New Bern Board of Aldermen adopted an ordinance on Oct. 28 to annex 3406 Old Airport Road, a parcel of about 1 acre requested for city service and annexation by property owner Michael Miller Jr.
City staff said the parcel is contiguous with existing city limits and that the annexation follows requirements in the city's water and sewer use agreement. The board opened a public hearing on the item and, with no members of the public speaking, closed the hearing before taking a roll-call vote to adopt the ordinance.
The motion carried unanimously. The annexation now moves the property within the city’s jurisdiction for municipal services and regulation; staff said later steps will include administrative processing and updating service maps.
Michael Miller Jr. is the applicant for the annexation; city staff characterized the parcel as approximately 1 acre in size. The board did not discuss any amendments or conditions to the annexing ordinance during the meeting.
The board did not set an effective date in the discussion recorded on the agenda; any implementation dates or additional conditions will be handled through the city’s standard administrative process.
