Board approves permanent closure of an unimproved portion of E Street for redevelopment project

The New Bern Board of Aldermen held a public hearing and voted Nov. 12 to adopt an ordinance permanently closing a segment of E Street to facilitate a redevelopment commission project along West A Street.
Mister Hughes, presenting on behalf of staff and the redevelopment commission, described the closed portion as an unimproved right-of-way extending to the railroad right-of-way and explained the closure would help facilitate redevelopment nearby. The board opened and closed the public hearing; no members of the public registered opposition during the hearing. Following a motion and second, the board approved the ordinance on a roll-call vote.
There were no conditions or amendments recorded at the meeting; staff will implement the closure consistent with the ordinance and any required mapping updates or recording of the right-of-way change.
