The New Bern Board of Aldermen voted Nov. 12 to appoint James Trey Ferguson to the Ward 1 vacancy and administered the oath of office.
City staff moved to consider the appointment and the motion carried on a roll-call vote. Ferguson raised his right hand and swore to support the constitutions and to faithfully discharge the duties of his office. After the oath, Ferguson thanked the board and the voters of Ward 1 and said he was ready to get to work.
The appointment was confirmed in the roll call that followed; attendees recorded present included Aldermen Royal, Astor, Best, Outlaw, Ferguson and Mayor Odom. No further discussion followed before the board moved on to other business.
The board adjourned after a closed-session meeting later in the evening; there was no additional action tied to the Ward 1 appointment.
