Historic Preservation Commission to compile public feedback on design‑guidelines update after two forums and online survey

Commission staff and members reported on two special public meetings (Nov. 6 and Nov. 10) held to gather public input on draft updates to the Historic District design guidelines, and on a parallel online survey that received more than 100 responses.
Chair and staff said meeting formats used rotating round‑table discussions with scribes at each table to capture comments. Staff will compile the written notes and online responses, categorize the feedback, and publish a summary in December. Jesse Rufe was thanked for organizing the public meetings.
During public comment, resident Margo Fusperman (516 Craven Street) praised the round‑table format and urged stronger outreach and notification methods—she said many learned of the meetings by word of mouth—and recommended considering third‑party facilitation for a longer, months‑long process. Commissioners acknowledged the feedback and confirmed the survey remains open through Nov. 30.
Staff said the compiled results will be used to inform how the draft guidelines are revised and presented to the commission for further review.
