Board recognizes student athletes, arts and community events; resident corrects funding of holiday breakfast

The Dover Public School District board opened its meeting with recognition of fall student-athletes and community arts events and closed with public appreciation and a funding clarification for a district holiday program.
Sean Bullock invited athletes and coaches to the podium to honor Dylan Alvarado, who won the individual divisional title at the Greater Morris County Middle School championships, members of the Dover boys soccer team for a back-to-back divisional championship, and the boys cross-country team, which went undefeated in dual meets this fall. Bullock read a long roster of players and thanked coaches Pergillos, Gross, Hoyt, Madison and Schmidt for their work.
Superintendent Jaime and board members also highlighted arts and school spirit events: a high school murder-mystery dinner theater, STEAM Day at North Dover, honor-roll assemblies and upcoming winter concerts. Jaime noted the district’s coat drive had collected “over 300 plus coats” for community distribution on Dec. 19 and congratulated a Dover High School senior, Musam Sheer, for matching to the University of Southern California with a QuestBridge Scholarship.
During the second public comment period, John Coniglio of Taylortown Road thanked staff and volunteers for Breakfast with Santa and corrected earlier remarks that had described the food as donated. Coniglio said the food and goodie bags were purchased via a nearly $2,000 NJEA grant obtained by the Dover Education Association and thanked the Riverside Shop for cooperating on the event.
