Dover board moves forward on Route 46 purchase, generator and bus camera system

Facilities director Mister Toth told members the Dover High School generator remains on schedule for delivery around Jan. 9 and that the generator project remains under budget.

Board members also reviewed change orders for the Sixth Grade Annex. The board accepted a $6,500 change to replace specified stainless-steel bathroom stall walls with a solid-surface material for durability but declined a larger $66,500 bathroom fixture upgrade; the district will seek lower-cost fixture options. The board approved an added modular kitchen warming unit for $217,000; administration said those extra change orders will be included in next year’s budget.
The business administrator described a proposed bus camera and GPS system that would provide real-time tracking and two-way communication between dispatch and drivers. The system was presented with an estimated cost of $70,000 and a potential end-of-year discount, and the administration recommended moving forward to improve safety and accountability. Doctor Saner raised earlier concerns about inconsistent bus evacuation reporting and the absence of cellphones for drivers; the business administrator said the new system and standardized internal forms should improve communications and reporting.
Board action: The board subsequently moved and approved finance and facilities agenda items presented that evening. During the roll call vote, two members recused themselves from specific payment approvals: Miss Phillips recused for payments to vendor 1950 and Doctor Sainer recused for payments to employee 900009685.
What’s next: Administration will report back with closing details for the Route 46 purchase, finalize the bus-camera/GPS contract terms, and continue investigating lower-cost fixture options for the annex. The generator delivery remains scheduled for early January.
