Citrus County announced a public process to update its comprehensive plan, which Speaker 1 said "was last updated in 1990," and said the county is partnering with Inspire Planning and Design to craft a vision for the county through 2050.
The county described the comprehensive plan as a document required by Florida Statutes that will establish policies to guide future land use, infrastructure investment and resource protection. "The comprehensive plan will guide how land is used, infrastructure is built, and resources are protected in the years to come," Speaker 1 said.
County presenters said the update will be organized into standard planning elements covering housing, transportation, economic development, conservation, land use and recreation. Officials framed the process as an opportunity to balance growth with preserving community character and natural resources.
To inform the update, the county invited public participation through multiple channels. Speaker 1 described in-person workshops and pop-up events led by Inspire Planning and Design across Citrus County and said more information is available on the project's website. The county also opened an online brief survey and a community forum where residents can post ideas and view a timeline tracking project stages.
Organizers urged residents to engage early. "Share your voice today," Speaker 1 said, noting the website includes dates for upcoming events and the survey link.
Next steps: the county will hold the announced outreach events and use resident feedback to inform draft plan elements; no dates or formal decision timeline were specified in the remarks.
