The Board of Public Works and Safety approved several pay applications and final change orders Dec. 15 as part of year-end closeouts for road work in the east end of Madison.
Chris Hale, presenting on behalf of the city’s street/engineering team, described progress on a mid-block crossing project where temporary signage is in place until the final electronic signals arrive. On the pedestrian crossing he said, "People make their own path if you don't put 1 where it goes," explaining the project responds to observed pedestrian desire lines.
The board approved pay application number 2 and the change order for the mid-block Main Street crossing. They also approved pay application number 2 and the final change order for the Broadway to Mulberry resurfacing contract; Hale stated the Broadway–Mulberry payoff was $67,004.94 and the final change order was $1,001.25 and $0.63 as read in the meeting.
Hale also presented CCMG 2025-1 payout number 4 for $440,003.59 and payout number 5 for $21,005.78; both items were reviewed by staff and the city’s reviewer (JTL) and were approved by the board. Staff noted a few final punch-list items remain and that weather-dependent work is being scheduled as conditions allow.
