Summary

At its Nov. 14 meeting the Omaha Public Schools Board of Education handled routine business and received informational briefings on attendance and budget issues.
Procedural votes: The board approved a motion to excuse two absent members (motion by Dr. Holman, seconded by Miss Magnuson; roll call 7–0) and later approved the consent agenda (moved by Miss Magnuson, seconded by Dr. Holman; roll call 7–0). A motion to enter closed session for the protection of the public interest and to obtain legal advice and discuss negotiations with the superintendent, secretary to the board, chief of staff, Dr. Colette Niro, CFO Shane Ryan and legal counsel was moved by Vice President Snipes and seconded by Miss Magnuson; the motion carried on a 7–0 roll call. The board recorded entering closed session at 7:46 p.m. and coming out at 8:48 p.m.; the meeting adjourned at 8:48 p.m.
Other items: the board heard a school spotlight on Adams Elementary, an attendance presentation showing a 2.1 percentage-point increase in students attending 95%+ of the year, public comments on block scheduling, library materials and school meals, and a budget committee update on a state-aid recalculation that could affect future budgets. No action was taken on the proposed food-resolution during the meeting.
The board will receive further fiscal updates after the Nebraska Department of Education releases preliminary TEOSA models in January 2026.
