Cooper explained the building is a non‑contributing 1950 structure that originally had brick beneath the failing stucco; the applicant proposed removing the stucco, repairing the wall where necessary, and reintroducing a stepped central parapet and carriage‑style storefront doors to make the building fit the block’s historic character. The contractor said they planned to source matching 1800‑style brick and to rebuild the front façade in a manner consistent with neighboring historic buildings.
Board members and staff discussed the condition of the stucco, structural needs after prior fire damage, and appropriate cornice details. Several members thanked the applicants and emphasized that the work would improve a blighted corridor and be an investment in the central business district.
The board’s motion to approve the application was seconded and passed unanimously in the recorded vote. Staff will note the approved materials in the permit file and the applicant may proceed with required permits.
