Council approves three-year police contract covering 2026–2028

The Grandview Heights City Council on Dec. 1 approved an ordinance authorizing the mayor and finance director to execute a three-year collective bargaining agreement with Capital City Lodge No. 9 of the Fraternal Order of Police.
Mayor Bayard Kearns and Director of Administration Roger Maxwell told council the parties reached a tentative agreement and that the union ratified the contract. Maxwell said the agreement covers Jan. 1, 2026, through Dec. 31, 2028, and that the wage package was designed to keep the department competitive with other public safety agencies in central Ohio. "The parties were amicable together on a 3 year agreement that would cover 01/01/2026 through 12/31/2028," Maxwell said.
Council suspended the usual rules to allow same-evening passage. Following motions to suspend and to adopt, the clerk called the roll and recorded unanimous "Yes" votes from named members; the clerk then announced adoption of Ordinance 2025-13.
Council members thanked staff and union representatives for working quickly to conclude negotiations. The ordinance was approved and will be executed following any clerical corrections noted in the contract packet.
Next steps: Execution of the contract by the mayor and finance director; clerical corrections to typographical errors will be made before final signatures.
