North Pocono honors seniors; community business pledges support for youth wrestling

At its Dec. 4 meeting the North Pocono School District recognized three seniors for academic and extracurricular achievements and received a community sponsorship pledge to support youth athletics.

The board honored Catherine Sharuda, Roman Ritter and Jacob Moss for academic performance and extracurricular participation. Catherine Sharuda was described by the presenter as taking a full senior course load and ranking ninth in her class; Roman Ritter was recognized for his academic performance and extracurricular leadership including orchestra; Jacob Moss was noted as maintaining a 4.0 grade-point average and completing multiple AP and dual-enrollment courses. Each student offered brief remarks of thanks to family, teachers and the board.

Community member Matthew Rosensweit addressed the board to describe his family’s ties to the district and to announce sponsorship for the North Pocono Youth Wrestling Club on behalf of his businesses, Stag Tree Specialists and Knight Well Drilling. Rosensweit also said his company donated a crew and equipment to trim trees at Jefferson Elementary in preparation for a new musical playground. "I love this community that I'm a part of now," Rosensweit said. "We are proud to stand behind this program and contribute to its continued success and growth."

Student reports also noted recent student-led service: culinary students prepared turkeys for a community Thanksgiving dinner and the student council’s November can drive donated over 1,000 pounds of food to the North Pocono food pantry and Wayne County Food Bank.

The meeting recorded no public commenters during the public participation period. The board then proceeded to routine business and voted on budget, personnel and contract items.

The board’s next work session is set for Jan. 12, 2026, and the next regular meeting is Jan. 14, 2026.
