NEISD board approves campus and classroom library title lists after multi-step review

The NORTHEAST ISD Board of Trustees approved two library-title actions: (1) the campus library acquisition lists, including all associated ISBNs, and (2) the classroom library title lists to be available to students at designated grade levels for self-selected reading. Both votes were approved 6–0.
District staff described a multi-step process created to comply with legislative guidance (referenced as Senate Bill 13 and House Bill 900) that included public posting of title lists, an AI/bookmark-assisted review, district library advisory committee (DLAC) training and virtual meetings, community feedback in English and Spanish, and DLAC recommendation votes. Staff said over 4,000 campus titles and more than 8,000 classroom titles were reviewed and that the DLAC voting produced majority recommendations to approve the presented lists.
Trustees asked for documentation of DLAC attendance and vote records; staff said they would provide attendance and voting details and noted that parents retain the option to opt out of individual titles for their children.
