Duval swears in new mayor Amy McHenry and four council members; city issues holiday proclamations

Amy McHenry was sworn in as mayor of Duval on Dec. 2, 2025, after a brief ceremonial program that also included oaths for four newly elected council members. Council performed formal oaths of office for Adam Olin, Mike Supple, Lauren Kozlowski and Paul Wiggins before McHenry repeated the mayoral oath and offered a short statement to the assembled audience.
The council and staff used the evening’s ceremony to honor outgoing and long‑serving officials. In a lengthy tribute, a retiring official praised city employees as “the most incredible group of professionals that I've ever had the pleasure of working with,” and council members read certificates recognizing public service by Amy Akerlander, Carol Kufelt and Jennifer Napplin.
Mayor McHenry thanked the community and council during brief remarks, saying, "It's been an honor working with everybody," and asked residents and staff to keep engaging with the council. Following the ceremonial portion the meeting transitioned into the council’s regular agenda.
The meeting also included proclamations designating Dec. 4, 2025 as an extraordinary work team recognition day, marking Hanukkah (Dec. 14–22, 2025) and proclaiming Dec. 25, 2025 as Christmas in Duval. The proclamations encouraged residents to recognize city employees and community traditions.
The council did not take policy actions during the ceremonial portion; the swearing in was followed by a roll call and the regular meeting business.
