District facilities staff presented a revised scope and budget for the administration building renovation at the Gettysburg Area School District board meeting.
Josh, a district facilities staff member, told the board that earlier high-level construction estimates were $4,600,000, but design work produced a higher estimate of about $6,800,000 for a full, building-wide HVAC renovation. He presented three options: the full-scope HVAC renovation (~$6.8M), a recommended option (~$6.475M–$6.5M) that excludes attic work but adds a one-story addition to house a new boardroom and relocates IT, and an ad-alternate second level that would add roughly $1M, bringing a possible total near $7.5M.
Board members clarified that no action was requested at the meeting. Staff confirmed the project will be discussed at the finance and facilities committee on Thursday, returned as information at the next meeting, and then placed on a future board agenda for action if desired. District finance staff explained that roughly $5,000,000 of remaining bond capacity would be used first, with the balance covered from the capital reserve/capital projects fund; staff said this funding approach should not affect the district's 2627 budget or future tax rates.
The board asked about potential uses for a second-level expansion; staff indicated flexible, finished space (cubicle-style or training/conference area) would give the district room to grow. Directors and staff agreed to continue detailed cost and funding review at committee before any final decision.
Next steps: the finance and facilities committee will consider the designs and costs at its next meeting and the board will receive a further informational update before any approval vote.
