Gettysburg Area School District board approves co-chairs for committees, names representatives

The Gettysburg Area School District Board of Directors voted to allow co-chair positions on standing committees and elected representatives and committee leaders during its regular meeting.
Board members unanimously approved the district's ACD joint operating committee representative and alternate. Tim Sigman was nominated and elected as the district's three-year representative; Justine Sieg was nominated and approved as the alternate.
Directors also debated whether to permit two co-chairs on committee leadership slots rather than a single chair. After a motion to amend the relevant agenda items to allow co-chairs passed by voice vote, the board elected Tim (named in the record as Tim Siegmund/Sigman/Siggman in different turns of the discussion) and David Seitz (recorded as Dave Sites/Seitz in nominations) as co-chairs of the finance and facilities committee. The board likewise adopted a co-chair approach for the policy committee and elected Elmware and Kathleen Pratt as co-chairs for that committee.
During the nominations and votes, the board used voice votes and roll-call where appropriate; directors recorded their support affirmatively and no opposing votes were recorded in the meeting minutes provided.
The changes to committee leadership are intended to broaden participation and share workload across board members and community partners; the board discussed recruiting co-chairs from partner organizations and community volunteers. Kenneth Calabrese, a member of the public who spoke during citizens' participation, urged the board to add several committees and consider co-chairs that include community representatives and local partners, citing recent community fundraising as evidence of local capacity to participate.
The board president apologized earlier in the meeting for any remarks that may have appeared unsupportive of the prior board and emphasized working constructively with the current nine-member board going forward.
