Canvass board votes to count 22 provisional ballots, certifies 2025 city school election results

The canvass board for the 2025 city school general election voted to accept the election board's recommendation to count 22 provisional ballots and certified the election results, Speaker 3 said.
"We have 20 provisional ballots where the registered voter moved anywhere in the county and voted at a new precinct," Speaker 3 said. "So simply, they did not update their voter registration address at the time of the election. So we have 20 that we would recommend to count fully." Speaker 3 added two provisional ballots with name discrepancies related to marriage, divorce or legal proceedings that the board also recommended counting, for a total of 22.
Speaker 3 described the alternative group of provisional ballots the canvass board recommended excluding: "We have 6 provisional ballots that were voters for much people who were not registered to vote prior to election day that we would recommend not count. And we have 1 where a registered voter voted early in person and then attempted to vote again at the polls." The board recommended those seven not be counted.
After the recommendations were presented, Speaker 2 moved "to accept the recommendations from the election board," and a second was recorded. The motion carried; multiple participants responded "Aye," and the meeting noted that four people voted during that action.
Speaker 3 later presented final totals for the election, saying, "Our veil totals have gone up 22 ballots, which is correct, and that did not change the outcome of any race. So we have a total of 2,278 ballots that were cast for this election with a 12.32% turnout." Speaker 3 also reported a Milford city council race that was decided by write-in votes: two write-ins received seven votes, but one of those write-in voters was not a registered voter and therefore ineligible, making Joe Buchanan the winner.
"So I will submit these to the Secretary of State's office and put them on our website today," Speaker 3 said, describing the next steps to finalize the canvass.
The board's action was procedural and did not alter the outcome of any contest, according to the canvass report presented during the meeting. The canvass records, provisional breakdown, and summary will be forwarded to the Secretary of State's office and posted on the county website as part of the official record.
