Board recognizes October/November students of the month and showcases art 'Memory Project' connecting students with orphanages abroad

The Garfield Public School District Board of Education recognized two Students of the Month and heard from art teachers about a global service-learning project during its Nov. 24 meeting.
Mr. Stauffenbach presented October's student of the month, Daya Musalari, highlighting academic achievements including a top AP Calculus score, dual-enrollment coursework at Bergen Community College and leadership roles. Musalari thanked her teachers and family.
Ms. Caruso presented November student Victoria Hidalgo for strong academics, athletics and leadership. Both students received congratulations from the board and administration.
An art teacher described the Memory Project, a multi-year classroom activity pairing local students with children in orphanages; this year's participant country is Armenia. The teacher explained the projects include portraits, handwritten messages and tracing of hands to create personal connections, and that the portraits were mailed the same day. The teacher said the photos and artwork will be made available on the district blog.
