Commission approves second-reading zoning assignment for 67.2-acre annexation; abandons small right-of-way

The Johnson City Commission approved two land-use items Nov. 20: a zoning assignment related to a voluntary annexation and a right-of-way abandonment.
Planning Manager Whitney Hodges presented the second-reading zoning assignment for roughly 67.2 acres along Boones Creek Road and Christian Church Road. Hodges said the annexation is contiguous to the city, that the city's Horizon 2045 future land-use map designates the area as regional mixed use, and that staff and the Planning Commission recommended B-4 (Planned Arterial Business District) zoning. Hodges said a public hearing on the annexation will be held Dec. 18 and that notifications and signage had been posted in advance.
The commission moved, seconded and voted unanimously to approve the zoning assignment as presented.
Hodges also presented ordinance 49-31-25, a third-reading item to abandon 9,162 square feet of public right-of-way at the intersection of South Roan Street and East Highland Road. Hodges said there had been no changes since the public hearing; the commission moved, seconded and unanimously approved the abandonment.
Both actions cleared the commission with unanimous roll-call votes recorded on the record.
