City staff and department heads updated council on several community events and department developments scheduled for the holiday period.
Parks and events: Staff said the city’s Christmas lights will remain up through Dec. 23 and described a timeline for a tree-lighting event beginning at 5:30 p.m. with Santa, hot chocolate and a 6:00 p.m. golf-cart parade down D Street; a drone show and tree lighting were scheduled for later in the evening. Organizers said about 20 decorated golf carts are expected and that the activity will serve as a fundraiser for the Maddox Potter Foundation (as stated in the meeting record).
Fire department: The fire chief reported that a new ladder truck arrived Monday and that it will be on display in the Saturday parade. Council members commented that seeing the apparatus in person is preferable to viewing photos.
Facilities and operations: Staff announced a free movie night at the recreation center on Dec. 18 (showing Home Alone) and reported roof repairs are complete. Steve delivered an annual review of the city’s stormwater ordinance and said he recommended no changes; council asked that the approval be placed in the record.
Council expressed general enthusiasm for the events and thanked staff for organizing community activities.
