Crook County budget team proposes January-to-June calendar for FY27; commissioners asked to approve next week

Berger said the process would begin with goal-setting in January, provide departments all of February to prepare personnel and budget requests, include one-on-one staff meetings with department heads in March, and allow an April staff review before full presentations in May. "So, budget be adopted in June so we can legally open our doors on July 1," Berger said.
Berger and budget staff also plan an all-day budget committee meeting (with citizen members and commissioners) during the week of May 11 to present and make decisions in a single day, repeating last year's one-day approach where feasible. Commissioners confirmed availability of key members and suggested placing the calendar on the consent agenda at next week's regular meeting for formal adoption.
The calendar is procedural and intended to organize department deadlines and review steps in advance of formal appropriation decisions.
