Davis Middle and Aspen Elementary principals highlight assessment gains and programs
Summary
Davis Middle School reported improved accountability, expanded RTI interventions and daily attendance monitoring; Aspen Elementary presented MCLASS and YTOP results by grade and described HRS accreditation progress and family‑engagement activities.
At its Dec. 9 meeting the Uinta County School District #1 board received building‑level reports from Davis Middle School and Aspen Elementary outlining assessment results, intervention strategies and culture-building efforts.
Davis Middle School presenters described progress on accountability measures and an expanded Response to Intervention (RTI) schedule. They said the school used STAR assessments at multiple points in the year to identify needs and run targeted intervention classes. The Davis report also emphasized strict daily attendance monitoring with calls to families entered into PowerSchool, monthly crisis‑response drills that vary timing and scenarios, and positive‑culture work such as student rewards and staff activities.
Aspen Elementary Principal Steve Peterson presented the school’s theme, "Be a builder," and reviewed MCLASS and YTOP results for 2024–25. He reported kindergarten MCLASS benchmark rates around 63%, first grade about 65%, second 75%, third 75%, fourth 57% and fifth 67%. Peterson also displayed growth scores (for example, K: 68%, 1st: 74%, 2nd: 85%) and noted that the school met state and federal targets for achievement and growth on several indicators. He discussed continuing professional development (including an upcoming conference), family events such as "Donuts with Dads" and curriculum goals across music, science and PE.
Both presentations highlighted ongoing work around equity, targeted supports for low‑achieving students and classroom‑level monitoring to sustain gains across grades.
