A presiding judge in Lake Forest Park Municipal Court found probable cause Friday and set bail at $10,000 in a preliminary appearance following an arrest for driving under the influence, the court said.
The judge opened the special setting hearing and identified the matter as case 580275221 for Yoshi Onokuri. The court said it had received a criminal complaint and the city’s bail recommendation and had reviewed a statement of probable cause authored by Officer Coleman. The court stated, "I do find probable cause for the charge of driving under the influence." The judge described a multi‑vehicle collision and a reported high blood‑alcohol‑concentration reading in the probable cause materials.
Defense counsel Reid Myers told the court he would challenge probable cause, saying the probable cause statement did not include an officer observing the defendant driving or any witness reporting that they saw the defendant driving. "At this point, you know, we're not stipulating the truth in any of those allegations, but that doesn't necessarily mean he was driving," Myers said, arguing the charge could have been for physical control.
The court rejected that challenge, noting that when officers arrived the defendant was outside his vehicle and talking with occupants of the other vehicles involved. The judge said those circumstances, along with the collision and other observed facts, provided sufficient information to find probable cause for a DUI.
On conditions of release, Myers said his client had completed prior treatment, had stable housing at a family member’s residence, had limited ability to pay bail and was prepared to sign a declaration of non‑driving. He asked the court to consider electronic home monitoring with alcohol monitoring or release on personal recognizance with standard conditions, including ignition interlock or a signed declaration.
The judge said the court would set bail at $10,000 "for now" and invited motions if additional information were later provided to support electronic home monitoring with alcohol monitoring. The court instructed the defendant that if bail is posted he must appear at arraignment, keep the court informed of any address changes, commit no new criminal or alcohol/drug offenses, and not drive without a valid license and insurance. The court also ordered abstinence from alcohol and nonprescription drugs and indicated the court would order ignition interlock and SCRAM alcohol monitoring where appropriate.
The matter was set for arraignment on Monday, Dec. 20, 2025. The presiding judge closed the preliminary appearance and adjourned the hearing.
Note on the record: the court introduced the case name as Yoshi Onokuri; later in the hearing the judge addressed the defendant as "Mr. Curry," and the transcript contains inconsistent references to the defendant's surname. The transcript also contains inconsistent numeric transcriptions of the BAC value reported in the probable cause statement; the court described the reading as "a high reading."
