The City of Tuscaloosa granted two liquor-license approvals and adopted a range of routine resolutions and contracts during its Dec. 20 meeting.
Licenses: The council approved ABC application 25‑066 for The Drunken Professor (a lounge retail/package class 2 at 589 Lurleen B Wallace Blvd N, Unit A). City staff presented the application and said police had no objections; Officer Champion stated, "Police department doesn't have any objections to this applicant." Applicant Ginger Contos described the business as a small boutique operation with about 834 square feet and said she owned the building and expects street parking to serve patrons. The application received no public opposition and was approved by voice vote.
The council also approved ABC application 25‑067 for Votmore Hospitality Group Inc., doing business as Antioch Pizza Shop, at 409 23rd Avenue. Staff again reported no police objections. Applicant Mike Volkmar Jr. told the council the location is the company’s first outside the Midwest: "We're actually the first location outside of the Midwest." That application likewise passed by voice vote.
Resolutions and contracts: Councilmembers moved and unanimously adopted a series of resolutions authorizing purchases, minor public‑works contracts, professional-services agreements and grant applications. Items approved included a purchase from Thompson Tractor Company; authorization to execute an appraisal-services contract with Appraisal Consultant Group Inc.; multiple minor public‑works contracting authorizations (including contracts with Overhead Door of Tuscaloosa, JT Harrison Construction Company, Browning Masonry, Johnson Controls Fire Protection LP, Straight Line Fence LLC and others); authorization to execute a sales contract and amend the lease related to the TCL FBO LLC and the Tuscaloosa Police Department air‑patrol hangar; renewal of liability insurance for the city attorney’s office; authorization to draw drafts for right‑of‑way acquisitions for the Kicker Road sidewalk project; and a professional-services contract with Granicus LLC.
The council also established the City of Tuscaloosa legislative agenda for the 2026 Alabama legislative session and authorized disbursements from district improvement funds to Bryant High School and other community organizations. All the listed resolutions were moved and approved by voice vote.
