The Grand Forks Public Schools board approved several routine and programmatic items during its Dec. 8 meeting, including a curriculum proposal for 2026–27, the interim general fund financial statement and the district calendar start and end dates.
The curriculum recommendation — presented as cost-neutral to existing staffing — included adding a credited drumline course, Exploring Health Care Careers, Advanced Manufacturing 1 and 2 (paired semester courses), dual-credit Anatomy & Physiology A and B, and Spanish for Native/Heritage speakers (a pilot last year). The committee recommended deleting the stand-alone robotics course and folding robotics content into the proposed manufacturing sequence. Board members questioned potential scheduling impacts, equity between high school campuses and whether some electives might only run when enrollment warrants; administrators said enrollment will drive staffing and that principals coordinate campus offerings when necessary.

Trustees discussed scheduling coordination with CTE and other regional calendars and noted work remains to align calendars across partners. Several board members raised questions about how elective offerings are balanced between the two high schools and how some courses may only run when enrollment supports them. Administration said they will continue to coordinate across campuses and that the program-of-studies model allows staffing to follow student demand.
The board adjourned to a facilities committee tour at the new Valley Middle School after a brief announcement period.
