The committee recommended the board select colors and choose between two mascot directions; for the Bison option there was discussion about whether teams would be called 'Bison' or 'Thunder' to address concerns about female athlete labeling. Presenters acknowledged some community resistance to a snake mascot.
Trustee motioned to approve royal blue and Kelly green with Bison as the mascot; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote with an announced tally of 7–0. Staff reiterated that designs are prototypes and that further design and branding work (fonts, kit packages and application across items) will follow.
