Budget committee backs multi-year pay increases for firefighters, renews website contract and advances Youth Success Summit funding

Union agreements: City staff presented an ordinance to fund bargaining agreements for the Akron Firefighters Association Local 330 and the Civil Service Personnel Association covering 2025 through 2027. The staffing and budget presentation cited a 5 percent increase in 2025 and 4.5 percent increases in 2026 and 2027; staff said only a small appendix remains to finalize wage-scale rounding but that the city intends to make the cost-of-living adjustments without delay. Committee members moved to suspend rules and approved the request to place the funding on the council agenda.
Website contract: The committee reviewed a renewal contract with Revise Software Systems LLC to provide hosting and content-migration services, including guidance and work to meet the federal Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) updates coming into practice in April. The contract runs through 2029 and staff said the work includes content refresh and improved organization.
Youth programming and philanthropy: City and partner presenters described the Youth Success Summit (YSS) as a coordinating network for out-of-school-time providers. The GAR Foundation and YSS highlighted a Wallace Foundation grant of up to $10 million over six years for programming in Akron’s East Cluster that requires local funding commitments; the committee moved to suspend the rules and give a favorable report on the city’s planned support for YSS.
Next steps: The funding ordinance for union contracts, contract renewal with Revise, and Youth Success Summit support were advanced to the full council with suspension motions and favorable reports. Staff said they would finalize remaining technical appendices and return with any outstanding documentation as required.
