Commission approves removing Chippewa Drive curb cut for 7 Mile/Haggerty restaurant, adds signage condition

The Livonia Planning Commission voted Dec. 16 to recommend approval of an amendment to council resolution 139-25 that eliminates a proposed curb cut to Chippewa Drive for a new 2,515-square-foot drive-through restaurant at the northeast corner of 7 Mile Road and Haggerty.
Symmetry Management’s representative, John Frio, said Chippewa Drive is private and the property owner refused to grant access; a revised traffic review found no negative impact from removing the curb cut. Engineering and inspection staff reported no objections, and the fire and police departments noted standard permitting and access conditions.
Commissioner Droz moved to approve the amendment subject to adherence to sheet C-3 and the original conditions in CR 139-25. Commissioner Ventura successfully requested an added condition requiring the petitioner to erect signage visible to drive-through and exiting customers that directs motorists to permitted routes for eastbound travel rather than unsafe left turns from the site. The motion passed by roll call; the recommendation advances to city council.
The petitioner said the write-in, write-out restriction on 7 Mile is set by the county and that the sign package will be used to guide customers to legal routes (turn right, use nearby development driving routes or proceed to a light and then return).
