Hardin County Board hears progress reports on West Hardin Middle, child nutrition facility and Trojan Way Elementary bidding

A district construction presenter identified as Weir said work on West Hardin Middle School is progressing by phases (Areas D through A). Area D structural walls, roof trusses and concrete slabs are largely complete and the contractor plans to begin temporary heating and interior finishes within weeks. The cafeteria and kitchen (Area C) are now roofed and drying in, and classroom wings (Areas B and A) are moving toward roof installation and CMU wall completion.
On the Child Nutrition facility, presenters said the old building was demolished earlier this year, the site was graded, and the new office/training spaces and dry-storage area are under construction. A large freezer pad and mechanical, electrical and plumbing rough-in were described as substantially in place with final finishes and some electrical work remaining. Presenters said the site’s stormwater detention basin and new parking and sidewalks are in progress.
Trojan Way Elementary — described as a replacement for North Park — is out for bid with responses due Dec. 4. The presenter said the district hopes to provide direction at the January board meeting and begin work next year, aiming for a multi‑year timeline to completion.
Board members asked schedule and sequencing questions; presenters said that outside façades (brick and spray foam) will appear over the next month or two, that some interior areas will be ready for finishes after temporary heating is installed, and that drone-based site surveys are being used for progress tracking and dirt calculations.
No votes were required for these informational updates. Presenters characterized overall project status as on schedule and expressed satisfaction with contractor performance.
