District convenes community safety and well-being committee; third-party analysis planned

Board members reported progress on a newly formed student-safety and well-being committee that combines district staff, students, parents, community members and partner agencies. The committee has met twice and is using a ‘futures protocol’ to compare current conditions to a desired future state and to identify short- and long-term actions.
Board leaders said the committee is close to finalizing a contract with a third-party consultant (a firm familiar with school-safety analyses). That vendor will produce a written analysis across multiple focus areas and provide recommendations. The committee is coordinating with outside partners, including UW Harborview and local service organizations, and emphasized confidentiality for community participants who requested anonymity while contributing.
The committee also plans a January town hall to share information and solicit community input on priorities and next steps. Board members noted several immediate short-term changes the district has already implemented since October and described the contracted analysis as informing a prioritized multi-year plan.
