Snellville formally seated three newly elected council members at its November meeting, administering the oath of office to Shante C.J. Pitt (Post 3), Rochelle Brown (Post 4) and Catherine "Kat" Hardrick (Post 5). Mayor Barbara Bender led the ceremony and recognized outgoing council members for long service.
The new council members each addressed the chamber after taking the oath. Catherine Hardrick thanked volunteers and pledged to listen and serve, noting a priority on community engagement and veterans’ recognition. Rochelle Brown highlighted the role of tourism and local small businesses in community-building. Shante C.J. Pitt spoke about family, roots in the city and a commitment to residents as the population grows.
Mayor Bender read Proclamation 2025-15 declaring November as American Music Month and invited Deborah Hughes of the National Federation of Music Clubs for recognition. The mayor also previewed an upcoming rebid of the city’s sanitation contract and encouraged new members to use city staff as resources while they learn the council’s processes.
The meeting combined ceremonial business with brief operational notes: a veterans observance scheduled the next day, performing-arts events at the Snellville Performing Arts Center and an early reminder that several policies and agenda items await action as the new council settles in.
The council closed the ceremonial portion and moved on to regular business after the oaths.
