The Rio Grande City Economic Development Corporation voted on several economic-development assistance items and a park-beautification authorization during its recent meeting.
During an executive-session sequence the board approved assistance for multiple business prospects. A motion regarding business prospect 2023-5 described an assistance amount of $200,000; after clarifying procedural steps the board approved the motion by voice vote. The board also approved assistance for prospect 2025-4 in the amount of $15,000 and for prospect 2025-5 in the amount of $36,000, both motions carried by voice vote. The board approved prospect 2025-6 for assistance of $150,000 with the approval explicitly conditioned on pending legal review and a performance agreement.
Separately, on an open-agenda item the board approved funding for beautification work tied to a community pool/water-park project. Staff said the approach changed from construction to a lease agreement and reported the expenditure is to be “not to exceed $150,000” consistent with the FY2025–26 work plan; members moved, seconded and approved the item by voice vote.
Minutes and staff materials showed the board intends legal review and formal performance agreements to accompany the economic-assistance approvals where indicated. The transcript records repeated references to “pending legal performance” for at least two items. The board did not provide line-by-line public vote tallies in the meeting transcript; outcomes were recorded by voice vote as approved.
The board also postponed consideration of a draft gift deed proposed by the county historical foundation for property to be used in the International Drive project; staff said the deed is a draft and has not yet been reviewed by the foundation.
