Superintendent presented an FY27 budget forecast with an expected 6.5% increase and said the district aims to deliver a detailed FY27 book by Dec. 3; he also corrected a spreadsheet error, changing a projected circuit‑breaker shortfall into a positive $64,089.
GRAFTON — The Grafton School Committee heard a preliminary FY27 budget forecast and a correction to an earlier projection during its meeting.
Doctor Cummings, the superintendent, said the district is developing the FY27 budget and currently expects about a 6.5% increase. He said the FY27 budget book, with backup materials, is targeted for delivery to the committee on or by Dec. 3 and that the town’s five‑year forecast will be finalized after town submissions around Nov. 20.
Cummings also identified a spreadsheet error in an earlier estimate of circuit‑breaker funding. “She had listed or put our expected … a little over 64,000 dollars in the negative,” he said, and then clarified the figure should have been a positive $64,089. He added a recent personnel move has changed some projections further and that budget work is ongoing.
Committee discussion noted that tuition and transportation costs remain key drivers of budget pressure. Members discussed scheduling a joint meeting with the select board in early December and preferred viewing the full budget ahead of any joint session to allow focused questions.
A motion to approve the minutes from 11/04/2025 was made and seconded during the meeting and approved by voice vote (count not provided).
