At its Dec. 16 meeting, the Select Board voted to appoint Paola (Paula) Garcia Obelito to the Human Rights & Inclusion Committee and to accept a restoration gift from the Danvers Rotary Club for a Depression‑era mural that will be installed in Town Hall.
Luis Velasquez, a member of the Human Rights and Inclusion Committee (HRIC), read an application letter from Paola, who was unable to attend the meeting. Velasquez described her volunteer history, commitment to community service, and participation in HRIC activities; members asked about her attendance record and participation in subcommittees. A motion to appoint Paola was moved and seconded and carried unanimously.
Separately, Bill Faso, representing the Danvers Rotary Club, described a 15‑month restoration project to return one of 17 town murals to the town’s care. The painting — roughly 7½ by 9 feet — depicts a Revolutionary‑era scene the presenter titled the "shooting at Robert Hooper's great house." Board members asked whether invoices for restoration would be part of the acceptance and were told the board was voting to accept the gift in its entirety; the Davis Historical Society was acknowledged for partnering on the project. The board approved acceptance of the gift, thanked the Rotary and the Historical Society, and noted a tentative installation date in early January with logistics to be communicated to the public.
The appointments and gift acceptance were recorded as approved motions in the meeting minutes.
