Danvers High School’s recent open house led by student ambassadors earned rapturous reviews from parents and appears to be influencing some families’ enrollment plans, Principal Strauss told the Danvers School Committee on Dec. 8.
Strauss said a parent survey showed 85% of respondents rated the event a 5 out of 5, 92% found the event easy to navigate and 88.4% said they received the information they hoped for. He said 78% of respondents said they were highly likely to consider or enroll their child at Danvers High School after attending the event. Strauss added that a small number of families indicated they would no longer pursue other options, including technical schools.
The open house combined auditorium presentations, student ambassador-led tours of academic departments, clubs and athletics tables in the field house, and a preview performance of Hadestown. Strauss told the committee that the auditorium portion was filmed and the district plans to post it on Danvers Community Access Television (DCAT) so families who did not attend can view it.
Committee members praised the event’s student participation and the message it sent about school culture and college/career preparation. One member said the open house highlighted programs such as AP offerings and early college options that the district had not previously emphasized to the public.
The principal said staff will continue to refine the event for next year, including filming more of the evening’s content and adjusting the schedule to avoid conflicts with major community performances. The district said it will use parent feedback to shape outreach and recruitment efforts ahead of the FY27 budget and enrollment planning.
