Committee recommends MSBA model calendar policy to full board to align with state requirements

A staff presenter explained the district's written calendar policy had last been revised in 1999 and stated a minimum school year of 174 days (1,044 hours), while Missouri law requires 169 days. The presenter said recent calendars adopted for 2024–25 and 2025–26 did not meet the 174-day figure in the old policy and that MSBA's model policy clarifies items now required by state law, including snow/makeup days and professional development time.
"So we asked MSBA for a model policy on calendaring, and they sent us the one that you all received," the presenter said. A board member moved to recommend the MSBA model policy to the board in January; during the committee's assent, Miss Hubbard, Miss Foster and Doctor Collins Adams were recorded as voting yes and the motion was approved. Staff will prepare the board report for the work session and the board meeting in January and can adjust calendar dates for January or February if necessary.
The committee did not amend the model policy at this meeting and intends to present it to the full board for consideration and possible adoption.
