Staff said some timelines for larger schools such as Soldan and Sumner depend on contractor proposals and material procurement, particularly roofing. The district extended its RFP due date for certain contractor bids to Dec. 19 to broaden competition and allow more complete proposals.
During board discussion, members asked for updated timelines for Soldan and Sumner; staff said additional information will follow after Dec. 19 when proposals are returned. A motion to approve the reopening plan as presented was moved (speaker 5), seconded (speaker 4), and passed by roll call.
Separately, the board approved a staff recommendation to close district offices and schools on Friday, Dec. 26, 2025 (the district’s proposed calendar change for the week between Christmas and New Year’s). Board members noted high expected absenteeism on the day after Christmas as rationale for the closure.
Board members thanked operations and custodial teams for remediation work and noted vandalism challenges (one service panel described as vandalized), while staff said security measures and temporary fixes have been put in place as permanent repairs continue.
Next steps: staff will report contractor bid results after Dec. 19 and provide updated projected completion dates for larger sites, and the board will receive further reopening logistics and transportation details before student moves and resuming in-person instruction.
