Council authorizes purchase agreement and county attorney contract after executive session
Summary

Dorchester County Council ended an executive session on Dec. 8 by authorizing two post-session actions and noting no public action was taken while in executive session.
Council authorized the county administrator to execute an amended and restated purchase-and-sale agreement for the property at 500 North Main with such modifications as he deems appropriate in consultation with outside counsel and the county attorney. The motion passed with six votes in favor and one recusal.
Council also authorized the county administrator to execute the county attorney employment contract with William R. Hurd Jr., as presented in executive session, again allowing the administrator to make appropriate amendments in consultation with county staff; that motion likewise passed 6–0 with one recusal. Councilman Herndon announced his recusal from deliberation and voting on the county attorney matter because he had been selected as the successor to fill the county attorney position and therefore had a potential economic interest.
The meeting record states the council met in executive session to discuss three contractual matters: the 500 North Main purchase-and-sale, the proposed Pine Hill Lakes development agreement, and the county attorney employment contract. After returning from executive session, council recorded the two authorizations and then adjourned.
