Commissioners said they appreciated the lower ridge and simplifications but repeatedly flagged concerns about the amount of white trim, the vertical massing and a visible flat-roof deck element.
Commissioner Joe Paul and Commissioner Angus McLeod recommended lowering some plate heights and adjusting garage-door proportions to reduce perceived verticality. Commissioner Val Oliver moved to approve the submission on the condition that the detailed color palette be changed to Nantucket gray; the motion passed on a roll call (ayes from Oliver, Paul, Connie Patton and Angus McLeod; the chair recorded a no but the motion carried). The commission instructed staff to require final, bubble-marked drawings (an Exhibit A or equivalent) showing the color change and the simplified trim details before staff issues any approval letters or permits.
The commission’s action resolves the outstanding design concerns tied to visibility and trim contrast; the record shows commissioners emphasized that the final color and trim exhibit be provided to staff for confirmation.
The architect and applicant said they would provide revised, bubbled drawings and material/color samples for staff review.
The commission moved on to the next item following the vote.
