Greene County treasurer reports increase in year-to-date collections and summarizes foreclosure-auction results

Mario Gonzalez, Greene County treasurer, presented the county’s monthly financial report on Nov. 17, saying October delinquent-tax collections totaled $505,284.69, a small decrease from October 2024, and that year-to-date collections for 2025 were $7,759,066.43 — roughly $2.08 million higher than the comparable 2024 figure.
Gonzalez summarized results from the recent county foreclosure auction. Staff reported between 51 and 53 parcels were on the block; many were repurchased by owners, producing bid totals of $3,071,209 and a surplus above amounts owed of approximately $2,583,949 that will be returned through the courts to owners who successfully petition. One parcel (reported as in Lexington) received no bids; another, affected by demolition and code issues, produced a $19,000 bid that left the county exposed to a likely loss. Staff and members discussed the administrative burden of title searches and the staff effort required to process repurchases.
Treasurer Gonzalez praised staff for completing more than 300 title searches and handling a complex auction process. He said the county will continue to refine procedures and report further on the top delinquencies and follow-up actions at the December report.
