Fullerton School District elects Ruthie Hanchett as board president, ratifies labor deals and approves positive budget certification

The Fullerton School District Board of Trustees elected Ruthie Hanchett board president and completed a series of staffing and financial approvals at its Dec. 9 organizational meeting.
Hanchett won the presidency by roll call and thanked trustees: “Thank you very much. Thank you to my board for nominating and voting for me,” she said after the vote. Trustees also selected James Cho as vice president and Vanessa Estrella as clerk.
The board appointed Dr. Bob Pletka as board secretary through Jan. 31, 2026, and noted that Dr. Chad Hammett will take over the role Feb. 1, 2026, when Pletka retires. The appointments were approved by roll call votes.
