Following a public hearing on funding for the US‑301 Industrial Site, the Halifax County Board of Commissioners voted Dec. 1 to adopt a resolution authorizing appropriation and expenditure of grant funds and to adopt an associated project ordinance.
Economic development director Cathy Scott described the project and the funding sources during the hearing. She told the board the county had received funding through the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina (an amount transcribed as $2,350,000) and additional funds from the North Carolina Department of Transportation (transcribed as $650,000). After the hearing, Scott said a resolution and project ordinance in the meeting packet support findings that the project will benefit Halifax County and help create permanent jobs.
Commissioners moved to adopt the resolution and then adopted a project ordinance for the site-development activities. The chair noted staff comments and several commissioners expressed support for proceeding; the board approved both items by voice vote. During final remarks one commissioner said, 'I'm looking forward to spending this $3,000,000,' reflecting the combined project funding discussed in the packet.
Staff will proceed with the project ordinance implementation and related administrative steps for the US‑301 Industrial Site.
