The Halifax County Board of Commissioners convened its organizational meeting on Dec. 1, 2025, and reelected its chair for the coming year before selecting a vice chair.
During opening remarks the chair called the session to order, introduced Reverend William Robinson of Smith Chapel Baptist Church for an invocation, and led the pledge of allegiance. The board then moved directly to organizational business, with a motion made and approved to elect Bridal Bryant as chair for the ensuing year. Jamila Richardson Davis was nominated and approved as vice chair after a second and voice vote.
The board also adopted the meeting agenda after a brief procedural note about removing the pledge item from the organizational agenda. Commissioners completed the required conflict-of-interest disclosures under the county’s procedure referencing state statute language; one commissioner announced a conflict on an agenda subitem and was excused for that item.
With leadership in place, commissioners approved a three‑item consent agenda covering property tax collections/releases for November 2025, budget amendments and the 2026 meeting schedule. Vice Chair Davis noted a potential scheduling conflict with an employee holiday luncheon and asked staff to adjust the December 2026 date if necessary. The board recorded no public commenters during the scheduled public-comment period.
The meeting proceeded to substantive agenda items after the organizational actions and disclosures.
