Youth review board hears student and nonprofit pitches for literacy, cooling and cultural programs

Vice Chair Chloe Camarillo opened the Youth Neighborhood Association Partnership (YNAB) Grant Review Board meeting on Dec. 11, 2025 in Las Vegas and announced that the board would hear presentations from youth and nonprofit applicants for YNAB funding.
The meeting featured five substantive presentations from student groups and community nonprofits proposing projects targeting literacy, cultural engagement and heat-related assistance for people experiencing homelessness. Chloe Camarillo instructed presenters on time limits and procedure: “You have 5 minutes to make your presentation, then the board will have 5 minutes to ask any questions.” Board staff and members repeatedly reminded applicants that funding decisions will be made at a later deliberation and that the board will forward recommendations to the Las Vegas City Council on Feb. 4, 2026.
Presenters included Moments Music Matter (an interactive music-history exhibit), ReadUp Youth’s Little Libraries Big Future (eight Little Free Libraries targeted to Title I schools), the Doctor Betty Shabazz Delta Academy Rose Book Drive (kits for preschoolers), Top Enrichment CDC’s Literacy and Reading Corner (quarterly pop-up reading support for four Title I schools), and Operation Chill Crew’s Beat the Heat Baskets (care packages for people experiencing homelessness). Each presenter answered board questions about budgets, school or partner permissions, volunteer staffing and data tracking plans. Several applicants confirmed they will revise site lists to ensure projects fall within Las Vegas city limits when required.
The board did not vote on any awards at the meeting. Staff said applicants will be notified of the YNAB board’s recommendations within three weeks; the board will vote on recommended funding awards in a later meeting and present the final recommendations to the Las Vegas City Council on Feb. 4, 2026.
