Commission recommends rezoning to allow light industrial use near Providence Court

The Dawson County Planning Commission voted to recommend rezoning ZA25-10, a request to change a five-acre property from CHB to CHI to permit a light industrial development.
Chair introduced the application and Jim King, who gave his address as 131 Prominence Court in Dawsonville, said the request would "reinstate uses that were once in this property" and argued that CHI conforms with the area's mixed-use character. King told commissioners the parcel’s allowable uses had been reduced by zoning ordinance changes since 2020 and that he seeks CHI to restore former uses.
No members of the public spoke in opposition at the hearing. A motion to recommend approval was made, seconded and the chair announced the motion carried 3-0. Commissioners told King he will need to appear before the Board of Commissioners next month for final action.
Because this action is a recommendation, the Board of Commissioners will make the final decision on the rezoning request.
