Dawson County staff propose donating 1999 surplus fire engine to Lakeland, Ga.

Emergency Services Director Troy Lee told the Dawson County Board of Commissioners on Dec. 4 that one of the county's surplus fire engines (a 1999 model) could be donated to the City of Lakeland Fire Department in South Georgia. Lee said Dawson County personnel had previously assisted Lakeland during a disaster response and that Lakeland's remaining engine was a 1970s-era vehicle.
Lee said the Lakeland chief was "super excited" about the prospect and understood the engine's age and condition. He asked the board to sign off on donating the better of the two surplus engines so Lakeland could retrieve it. The county had already disposed of another surplus engine earlier.
The transcript records the presentation and staff recommendation but does not show a final vote approving the donation during the work session.
