Planning commission approves variance for Sierra store wall sign

The Dawson County Planning Commission on its December agenda approved a variance allowing a Sierra (part of TJX) store to install a main wall sign larger than the code currently permits.
Chair introduced variance VA25-23, noting the application had been filed by Jill Lamox, Inc. Kristen Hamilton, who said she was "here on behalf of Jill Lamax with Anchor Signs," told commissioners the proposed main wall sign would be "about 204 square feet" so the store sign would match the rest of the shopping center. Hamilton said the Sierra letters measure about 54 inches tall and the logo will be 75 inches tall.
The application cites the Dawson County Land Development Code, Article 9, Section 1 29 2 2 4. The county staff presentation said the request was for relief from the county's sign-size limits so the sign would align with adjacent storefronts.
No members of the public spoke in favor or opposition. A commissioner moved to approve the variance; the motion was seconded and carried. The chair announced the motion carried 3-0.
The variance approval allows the applicant to proceed with the larger wall sign under conditions specified in the county's permitting process. The commission did not record additional conditions in the meeting record; the applicant received the variance and may pursue permitting with county staff.
