Mayor Matthew McCoy presented a proclamation at the Dec. 9 meeting recognizing John Wilson for 15 years with the Seaford Volunteer Fire Department and decades of prior service. The proclamation cited Wilson’s roles (captain, assistant chief and chief) and his participation on state and local fire-service committees.
Wilson addressed the council and audience, describing a 44‑year fire-service career and eight years as Seaford’s fire chief. He said SVFD responded to more than 7,665 fire and rescue calls and about 31,656 EMS calls during his tenure, praised the work of volunteers and career staff, and asked city leaders to continue investing in apparatus, training and staffing to sustain the combination fire service model. Vice Mayor Dan Henderson and other council members publicly thanked Wilson for improving transparency, training and community outreach during his leadership.
The council’s tribute recognized Wilson’s leadership and service milestones and served as an official record of the city’s appreciation; no formal council action beyond the proclamation was required.
